No sleeping or sitting in high or luxurious spaces
A Few Notes on the Practical Application of the Precepts
No killing applies also to insects and other small beings. If you don't want to share your
space with them, please gently catch them and release them outside.
No stealing goes beyond simply abstaining from outright thievery. It also means taking
care and being frugal with community supplies.
No sexual activity means to relate to everyone in a non-sexual way. While at the
monastery you should treat everyone as your brother or sister.
Harmful speech includes gossip, abusive or vulgar language and also frivolous chatter.
The ideal is to "speak of the Dhamma or keep the Holy Silence"
Absolutely no alcohol, marijuana or other "recreational drug" is to be
consumed during your stay here.
Bodily adornment means jewellry, cosmetics and perfume. In general, dress should be
modest, practical and simple.
The precept against eating after noon follows the guidelines of the monk's vinaya.
Food is to be taken only between dawn and solar noon. Tea, coffee, juice etc. may be
taken at any time. Usually at Arrow River we take just the one meal a day.
