A stay at Arrow River is an excellent place to deepen your meditation practice. The environment is quiet and secluded.
We meet together for one sitting in the morning. There is ample time in the day for you to practice on your own. Ajahn Punnadhammo is available to give meditation instruction or to answer questions every morning before the meal.
We teach mostly anapanasati (breath meditation) and Mahasi-style vipassana (insight meditation based on the "noting" method.) Other meditations may be practised after discussion with the Ajahn.
While this unstructured form of practice may not be ideal for complete beginners, as it requires a measure of self-discipline to be fruitful, it is a rare opportunity for those with an established practice.
Arrow River has a first rate library. Our collection of Buddhist books includes English translations of the suttas and commentaries. We also have a large selection of secondary works including the Thai forest masters, Burmese Vipassana teachers and modern academic works. We also have a selection of books from the Zen, Tibetan and Mahayana traditions, as well as a good general collection.
Visitors are welcome to use the library and to take books back to their cabins if they wish.
There are no fees charged for meditation retreats or for any activity of the Center. All retreats are supported on the ancient Buddhist tradition of dana, or free-will giving. Please help us to make Dharma practise possible.
